چکیده
DEGEXEKATIVE vascular disease is a well-known complication of diabetes mellitus and many diabetics die from the resultant damage to the cardiovascular system. Xonfatal illnesses secondary to diabetes mellitus, such as gangrene of the legs, blindness, cerebral vascular accidents and senile mental deterioration, impose a vast morbidity on the diabetic. These, too, are largely accountable to degenerative vascular disease." There are some indications that the incidence of vascular complications in diabetes mellitus has not decreased in spite of the great improvement in the control of the disease.° This may be the result of the increased longevity of the diabetic patient.G Animal experiments have given indications that insulin might have some aggravating influence on the development of atheromatous lesions." I t is then possible that the long-term usage of insulin in diabetic patients may play a role in the development of the atherosclerosis in these patients. The present study was undertaken in an attempt to find out if daily intra-arterial administration of insulin has any effect on the lipid content of the arterial wall in the diabetic animal. The experiments to be reported in-

Insulin and jejunal electrical activity in dogs and sheep.
The effect of insulin on jejunal myoelectric activity was studied in conscious dogs and sheep by injection of insulin and stimulation of insulin release. In dogs, the migrating myoelectric complex (MMC), characteristic of fasting, was replaced by a continuous pattern of activity after feeding, injection of insulin, or infusion of D-glucose, L-leucine, or L-arginine. The response to feeding was ...

BACKGROUND This study was undertaken to investigation the effect of Diasulin, a poly herbal drug composed of ethanolic extract of ten medicinal plants on blood glucose, plasma insulin, tissue lipid profile, and lipidperoxidation in alloxan induced diabetes. METHODS Ethanolic extract of Diasulin a, poly herbal drug was administered orally (200 mg/kg body weight) for 30 days. The different dose...

متن کاملExperimental galactosemia produces diabetic-like retinopathy.
Six normal dogs were made galactosemic by feeding a 30% D-galactose diet, and were followed up to 5 yr. For comparison, 10 normal dogs and 10 alloxan-diabetic dogs were concurrently fed the diet less the galactose supplement. Retinopathy occurred in each of four dogs glactosemic 3 or more yr, and was absent at lesser durations of galactosemia, and from normal dogs not given the galactose supple...
